I felt like I was reading bad fan fiction on the internet. Like the story as a whole, the characters captured my interest but did not satisfy my curiosity except Atrus. But I do know for sure that, after witnessing Gehn’s birth in 2nd book and meeting Catherine in 3rd book, I wanted to know more about both of them. The characters were well-developed, although I imagine it may be more enlightening if you are already familiar with the game. I find it hard to believe that one book can contain so many vividly described worlds.

The writing, at first, seems a little too detailed in its descriptiveness, but it was easy enough to get used to and I think it’s somewhat meta: His father, Gehn, abandoned Atrus immediately after, leaving him to his grandmother to raise or bury. Start here, with The Book of Atrus. I would most definitely recommend taking the time to read this book. At the end of Myst we find Atrus sitting at a desk in a deep cavern in place known as D’ni.

,ibro my inspection of the edition, I must say it was a great marketing idea and wish more publishers would do this rather than just adopt the typical dust jacket. Atrus, the main character is one of the last of a lost race of people, the D’ni, who have a special power that allows them to create world’s that can be entered through writing the world arus books utilizing the lost D’ni language.
Now after re-reading this I feel that I need to dig out my cd-rom of Myst. Totally cool and better than any flying islands.

Gehn is out of control and believes that he is a God. Finished the first book in the set, had already read the second one, and the third one continues the second one.
Atrus, the protagonist of this novel, is the father of the two brothers upon which the story of the CD-ROM is based. I love the world of Myst and so was determined to get through the book.

I really enjoyed the style of the games and the characters, so I decided recently to give this book a read. I believe it came bundled with the family computer we got once the internet was born. I highly recommend the games for the story they tell. It helps me to believe libgo the truth of a creator. Well, you know how those free books can be: As with the other books in the series the point of view changes can be confusing at points, but overall it is an flawless crafted series.
However, he sees a side to his father that he doesn’t like, nor does he remember how to get home to his grandmother. My Mom, being an author, told me that she has always thought about writing a fantasy novel. But it’s also a pretty decent fantasy novel ahrus its own right, with a strikingly unconventional hero in Atrus, intellectual, studious non-action guy. The game never thoroughly elaborated on the reasons behind the conflict, leaving such narrative to furtive whispers and the odd journal.
